LANXESS BHT is an effective stabilizer in polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride (dosage 0.01-0.1%) and polyvinyl ether. LANXESS BHT prevents discolouration and loss of mechanical strength in polystyrene and its copolymers, and protects against heat- and light-induced deterioration of cellulose esters and cellulose ethers in celluloid plastics. In synthetic fibres, it is a heat stabiliser for polypropylene, the dosage is about 1%.
